"We're almost there," he answered. "What's with the critters?"
"We're almost there," he answered. "What's with the critters?"
"I'll explain later," she said, teeth chattering as the woods grew more and more frosty. They advanced a few steps and then Roo stopped him, digging her heels into the ground. "Wait, wait, Gio-- you can't come with me."
"Why, where are you going?"
"To my sisters. And they can't catch you in the open."
"So you're turning me loose, then?"
"I'm trusting you to go back." she said, gripping his hand tightly and looking into the woods. "Because that thing isn't dead, and it isn't even the worst of them. You won't make it to the border."
"What's at stake for you if I don't?"
"Nothing good." she said, lips pressed into a thin line. "But... I can't force you, and I wouldn't. I swear I'll do what I can to keep you and yours safe, as long as you're with us."
"How about an explanation?" He asked instead. "Could you promise me that?"
"If I find you safely." she reluctantly agreed. "Then yes."
