"So you're turning me loose, then?"
"I'll be fine." She assured him. "... thank you. Stay safe, keep to the shadows, and in a pinch, weave around trees. They have trouble following."
He nodded curtly, watching her as she turned to go and making like he was going to leave... except his intention was anything but.
There was a thump and then a snuffle outside. "Friend of yours?" Venenzio asked.
"Lruia Lumanlisc." Venenzio recalled, reaching for the knob. "What's it doing here?"
Venenzio raised an eyebrow - what did he think that the rabbit would do? It was a rabbit. It could barely squeak, much less talk. He was so ready to leave this bloody country. Sangrian air would do good for Giovanni's brain. "Right."
He opened the door to reveal a small, fat, brown rabbit. It had antlers. It stood on its hind legs to look up at him, snorted, and then hopped inside. Tied around its back, under a ribbon, was a rolled scroll.
Gio, it read. Meet me on the balcony with the white crow.
There was no signature, but it was pretty clear who it was from.
"For what?"
"I'll come with you, stay out of sight." He offered. "If she's sending bait via rabbits, it can't be too complicated a trap."
"Fair point." He begrudgingly agreed. The rabbit hopped in a small circle around Giovanni's feet, then sat back expectantly.
