“Oh,” she began, meaning to talk about the kids, but then… again, he was freaked out enough. Maybe they could just ignore that small, sad tale. “… yeah, I’m sure they have a very high viscera tolerance here. Roo didn’t even flinch. I don’t know how she’s with that guy. And he creeps me out too.”
"There's something up with him," he nodded, tilting his head, which rested in his hand which rested upon his knee, to look at her. Somehow Pari was a fiercely grounding force for him, and though the subject matter was insane, the cadence of a gossipy conversation was such a familiar touchstone, it was a welcome constant in what had been an ocean of unknowns. "... Minor demon?" He tried.
“I think it’s worse than that.” She said, her gaze sliding to him, her voice softening to a stage-whisper. “Just a really fucked up man.”
"She kind of is too, though," he whispered in return, then added in a normal tone, "I guess they're good for each other."
"Maybe." was all Parisa said. It was also entirely possible that they were both dragging each other further down this dark pit called Altair, but she was a princess and knew to be tactful enough not to say that out loud.
Feo looked out to the eerily silent woods, coated in a thick blanket of white. "The kids weren't real, were they?"
She pursed her lips. "... no. Roo said that they were... leftovers. Apparently there was some village near this forest a long time ago and it got demolished overnight. So sometimes kids turn up here, except they're ghosts of the kids from that village. Though she was very adamant that they're not ghosts."
"What are they, then?" He wondered. "Echoes?"
"I would think that echoes would just, you know, repeat actions or whatever, but those kids talked to us." she laced her fingers together, setting her chin upon them. "Talked to you. And they reacted to things. And they seemed content enough. I don't think they knew they were dead."
"They definitely didn't. They were afraid of dying." He chose not to dwell too long on the heaviness of that statement.
